Vietnam's pellet production and export situation in the first 6 months of 2023

Vietnam has become the second largest exporter of wood pellets in the world. Currently, this is also one of the most important exports of the wood industry.

– After a period of hot growth in the second half of 2022, in the first 6 months of 2023, Vietnam's average pellet export price has decreased slightly, equivalent to nearly 3% to approximately 157 USD/ton.

– In June 2023, export pellet prices fell below 136 USD/ton, equivalent to a decrease of nearly 30% compared to the ceiling recorded 6 months earlier.

– Korea and Japan are the two import markets for the majority of Vietnam's tablets. In the first 6 months of 2023, Japan imported more than 1.16 million tons of tablets, worth more than 195 million USD, an increase of 5.65% in volume and 28.88% in value compared to the same period in 2022. In the same period During this period, Korea imported more than 840 thousand tons of tablets, worth nearly 116 million USD, down more than 33% in volume and nearly 43% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

– As of June 2023, the export price of pellets to Korea is only approximately 105 USD/ton, down 43% compared to the peak of 185 USD/ton in December 2022. In contrast, the export price to Japan is still close to 153 USD/ton, down just under 18% compared to the ceiling price recorded half a year ago.

– The number of pellet enterprises participating in the market tends to increase sharply in 2022 but will decrease significantly in 6M/2023 due to the unfavorable situation of the export market
